About Research Center for Law, Gender and Society Studies (LGS)
The establishment of the Center for Law, Gender, and Community Studies is an initiation of the Master of Law Study Program at the Faculty of Law UGM (MIH). MIH has developed a teaching system that is expected to be able to lead the strengthening of law graduates. MIH graduates are expected to have quality with mastery of legal knowledge that is able to solve legal problems that occur in society, encourage the development of new laws that are responsive and beneficial to society.
The mission of MIH is:
- Organizing education that instills in-depth academic ability and is critical, progressive and innovative towards the development of legal science;
- Carry out research to develop legal knowledge that is beneficial to society;
- Carry out community service in order to increase knowledge and awareness of the legal community; and
- Develop cooperation at the national and international level
Referring to the vision and mission above, it is very important for MIH to ensure an interaction space between the academic community, both lecturers and students, with various community groups. This interaction space is expected to be a place for strengthening and developing scientific knowledge based on real problems and needs in society. The interaction space is also expected to be a way for students to identify situations outside the campus in which they are active in the future.
By using a gender-sensitive legal perspective and in favor of the interests of the community, especially women and vulnerable groups in a multi-layered manner, the Study Center was formed to encourage the development of critical, creative and solutive thinking about laws and situations that develop within the state and society. On the other hand, the Study Center is also expected to be able to become a driving force for the development of laws and policies that provide protection to the community, especially women and other vulnerable groups of discrimination.
